Within the framework of the #nointermission project (Russian: #безантракта), the St. Petersburg Opera presents the opera Puss in Boots by Caesar Cui on April 24. Free broadcasting will be available at the link - http://tv.fontanka.ru. Beginning at 15:00.
Caesar Cui is the creator of the classic children's opera in Russia. His operas Snowy Bogatyr, Little Red Riding Hood, Ivan the Fool and Puss in Boots were very popular at the beginning of the 20th century, although they were not set on the professional stage. After the death of the composer, all these works were forgotten for many years.
The St. Petersburg Opera was the first theatre in Russia to appeal to the children's musical heritage of the great Russian composer. In December 2017, the tale of the most famous Cat, staged by the national artist Yuri Alexandrov, returned to the Petersburg stage. The performance received a new orchestration and a vivid stage design with modern video art. Concise and tireless, even for the smallest spectators, the performance included dancing scenes performed by soloists and the choir along with vocal numbers. It turned out that the work of Cui could inspire not only children but also adults. The charm of Charles Perrault's tale, music full of tenderness, wit and French grace - all this in the play Puss in Boots.
