Today, on February 7, the artistic director and founder of the St. Petersburg Opera Theatre, People's Artist of Russia Yuri Alexandrov celebrates his 72nd birthday.
Among numerous congratulations from colleagues and friends, the Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation V. Matvienko and Governor of St. Petersburg A. Beglov.
Yuri Alexandrov is one of the few directors sought after both in Russia and abroad. His performances are known in the USA, Italy, Turkey, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, France, Serbia, Belarus, Kazakhstan. Alexandrov is perhaps the only Russian opera director whose performances were staged on the most prestigious stages in the world, such as the Arena di Verona, the Metropolitan Opera, and the La Scala Theatre. In total, he staged more than 250 performances in opera houses in Russia and abroad.
In 1987, Yuri Alexandrov founded the Chamber Musical Theatre. The creative laboratory, which was conceived by the director, eventually became the state institution known as the St. Petersburg Opera. In June 2022, the St. Petersburg Opera will celebrate its 35th anniversary.
