The international tour of the theatre has began this season with performances in Thessaloniki (Greece), and will continue in October in the capital of Latvia.
In Riga, on the stage of the Palace of Culture VEF, the troupe of the “St. Petersburg Opera” will show two performances: “Les cloches de Corneville” by R. Planquette (October 05) and “Die Entführung aus dem Serail” by W.A.Mozart (October 06). Both performances were staged by the artistic director of the theatre, People's Artist of Russia Yuri Alexandrov.
For the first time, the Latvian public got acquainted with the theatre of Yuri Alexandrov 9 years ago at the International Sigulda Opera Music Festival, where the troupe of the theatre received a very warm welcome from the audience. Over the next five years, the entire cultural elite of the country was coming to Jekabpils, where the "St. Petersburg Opera" presented to people who cherish opera masterpieces of art - the original productions of Yuri Alexandrov such as “Rigoletto” by G. Verdi. “Die Fledermaus” by J. Strauss, “Don Giovanni” by W.A.Mozart, “Pietro Il Grande Zar di Tutte le Russie”. In the summer of 2018, following plays were shown on the stage of the Palace of Culture VEF: “Not Only Love” by R. Shchedrin, “Les pêcheurs de perles” by G. Bizet and “Faust” by C. Gounod, and in the upcoming days two unique productions will be shown on the same site.
The operetta “Les cloches de Corneville” by R. Planquette is distinguished by its lace elegance of melodies. Planquette composed a captivating fairy tale on a plot in which funny tricks coexist with innocent lies and misunderstandings, and fiery rhythms and unbridled fun with touching lyrics. “This is a romantic operetta about beautiful noble people, with mysterious ghost scenes, with a beautiful ending. Our performance is about a great dream that will come true”, Yuri Alexandrov says.
The play conducted by Alexander Goikhman.
“Les cloches de Corneville” is the first Austrian opera, written in the tradition of the singspiel, and it is still the oldest one in German language. “In the complex labyrinth of the performance, the venerable spectator will see not only a fascinating fun story about the adventures of young lovers in the fabulously unpredictable Turkey of the eighteenth century, but also a lyrical narration about the difficult relationship between Mozart and his wife Constanta, Yuri Alexandrov explains.
