The St. Petersburg Opera became the main guest participant at Saaremaa Opera Days festival in Estonia. The opera company presented 4 performances to the public: Faust by Charles Gounod, The Barber of Seville by Gioachino Rossini, Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti and Madame Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini.
Saaremaa Opera Days is the most popular opera festival in the Baltics, for which a summer theatre is built annually in Kuressaare Castle. The performances of the St. Petersburg Opera marked the first visit of a foreign ensemble to Estonia over the last year and a half. Tickets for the performances of the opera company were sold out long before the opening of the festival. All performances were received by the Estonian audience with delight: each of the 4 days the public gave the artists a standing ovation.
“I am very pleased that the St. Petersburg Opera theatre has become the main guest at the Saaremaa Opera Festival in 2021. The theatre’s performances led by maestro Yuri Alexandrov were a great success. The Estonian audience highly appreciated the wonderful performances. We are very glad to see you here. I thank you from the bottom of my heart, and we are waiting for the “St. Petersburg Opera” again on the island of Saaremaa and in Estonia, said the CEO of Eesti Kontsert, the organizing company, Kertu Orro.
The tour was supported by the Government of St. Petersburg and the Committee for Culture of St. Petersburg.
