“St. Petersburg Opera” Brings Two Premieres to Belgrade

The St. Petersburg Opera will present the production “Elektra” (R. Strauss) at the National Theatre in Belgrade on June 26, a gala concert on June 27, as well as “Esmeralda” (A. Dargomyzhsky) on June 28, 2021. “Elektra” and “Esmeralda” are the two recent premieres of the theatre that will be shown to viewers abroad for the first time in Serbia.
People's Artist of Russia, artistic director and founder of the St. Petersburg Opera Yuri Alexandrov, director of the St. Petersburg Opera Evgenii Malygin and director of the National Theatre in Belgrade Ivana Vujic-Kominac introduced the program of the tour on June 22, 2021 at the press conference. The moderator of the conference was general director of the Madlenianum Opera & Theatre Andreja Rackov.
“We begin our visit to Belgrade on June 22 – the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow, on the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. There is no need to explain to Serbian people what war is, what bombing is, what is the death of innocent people. We appreciate that Serbia is defending our common history even now. I would like to note that our theatre was founded 34 years ago, on June 22. And all this time we are at the center of the struggle for high quality. Our strength, our competitiveness lies precisely in this,” addressed Yuri Alexandrov.
“The St. Petersburg Opera, as always, will surprise the audience in Serbia with its performances. I am glad to every meeting in Belgrade with an outstanding artist and his team. Yuri Alexandrov is a man with two hearts: a big and open heart of a person and a great heart of a director,” said director of the National Theatre in Belgrade Ivana Vujic Kominac.
In addition to performances, on June 28th at the Russkiy Dom in Belgrade, a master class will be held for students of the Faculty of Musical Arts of the University of Belgrade on the analysis of the opera “Eugene Onegin” by P. Tchaikovsky from the point of view of the concept and author's vision of Yuri Alexandrov.
