The Fifth National Opera Award “Onegin” ceremony took place on November 13, 2020 at the Mikhailovsky Theater. The statuettes depicting the famous opera character were awarded to the artists for their creative achievements of the past season. That evening at the Mikhailovsky Theater one could hear the best young voices of Russia, also known all over the world. The hosts of the evening were Sati Spivakova and Alexander Malich. Soprano Venera Gimadieva (Bolshoi Theater of Russia), tenor Anton Rositsky (Moscow Musical Theater named after K. Stanislavsky and V. Nemirovich-Danchenko), Honored Artist of the Russian Federation bass Dmitry Ulyanov (MAMT named after K. Stanislavsky and V. Nemirovich - Danchenko) and other brilliant performers.
“Out of four dozen musical theatres in the country, 34 theaters have participated in the competition for the Onegin Award in five years. We can say that we unite the country's opera community. It often happens that the awarding of a prize hastens the awarding of a title to artists or encourages the administration to raise their salaries. We have plans to create a community of friends of “Onegin”, and the laureates of the award liked this idea,” the general director of the award, Igor Tarasov, told TASS.
The President of the Onegin National Opera Award, People's Artist of the RSFSR Sergei Leiferkus, considers an important feature of the award that “various departments of opera theatres are involved in it, from artistic directors and premiere names to accompanists and artists”.
The St. Petersburg Opera Theatre has repeatedly become a laureate of this award, for example, last year it received the award in nomination “The Event. Project", as the organizer of the Third International Chamber Opera Festival, and in 2018, in the nomination “The Composition" for the performance-reflection of Yuri Alexandrov "October ..17 ".
The National Opera Award “Onegin” was conceived for the sake of ambitious goals - to popularize Russian opera art, to define guidelines for the development of modern Russian opera theatre, as well as to identify the most interesting collectives and performers of Russian opera.
