The first concert from a cycle of new programs named “Musical Lounge” took place yesterday. The chamber concert was held for the first time for the public in the unique interior of the Red Room. Accompanist of the concert - laureate of international competitions Ekaterina Knyazeva. Within the program works by Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, Debussy, Donizetti, Derviz and others were performed.
The St. Petersburg Opera Theatre has brought back from silence the work of Pavel von Derviz, a representative of a dynasty of industrialists and patrons of the arts. During the opening concert of the Red Room in the mansion von Derviz's music was performed for the first time.
The romance "Minutes of Happiness" written by a philanthropist and composer to the words of Apukhtin was presented to the public by the soloist of the St. Petersburg Opera Dmitry Udi. Earlier this piece of music was not performed and connoisseurs of opera did not have the opportunity to get acquainted with the work: the composition, which was popular in the pre-revolutionary period, was forgotten. This romance was performed only in the frameworks of the tour of the theatre in Nice, where the family of von Derviz had another mansion, the correspondent of Rossiyskaya Gazeta Evgeny Malyshev states.
St. Petersburg is rich in beautiful theatrical buildings. Among them, in the center of the city the palace of Baron von Derviz - the building of the St. Petersburg Opera Theatre is situated.
“Throughout its long history, the mansion used to serve as von Derviz’s home theatre, as well as Vsevolod Meyerhold's theatre and the House of Culture in Soviet times. A large-scale restoration of unique interiors began in the mansion when it became home to the St. Petersburg Chamber Opera...", - St. Petersburg TV channel states.
In the 1880s, a young baron, a descendant of the old German Wiese family, actual privy councilor and chamberlain Sergei Pavlovich von Derviz decided to rebuild an ordinary apartment building, turning it into a fabulous Art Nouveau palace. The architect Peter Schreiber rebuilt the mansion, focused on the interiors in which the modern era is replaced by the Empire style, the Elizabethan baroque - classicism, unexpectedly lost in the bliss of the magnificent Moorish style.
Over the years, thanks to the efforts of the artistic director of the theatre, Yuri Alexandrov, it was possible to completely restore the historical appearance of the mansion. The last restoration work was completed in the summer of 2020 and today, for the first time to the public, the Red Room opens its doors. Under Baron von Dervies, art evenings were held in the Red Drawing Room, gathering prominent cultural figures of the late 19th - early 20th centuries. Today, the St. Petersburg Opera Theatre not only invites viewers to admire the beautiful interior of one of the unique European mansions, but also enjoy the sound of chamber vocal lyrics and instrumental music in the unique atmosphere of an aristocratic salon.
