Conductor of the St. Petersburg Chamber Opera Robert Luther will celebrate his 75th anniversary. The maestro will celebrate the anniversary on the stage of the theatre conducting the concert "Viva - Strauss".
Robert Luther graduated from the Rimsky-Korsakov Leningrad State Conservatory. In 1972 received degree in Choral Conducting (class of Professor E. Kudryavtseva) and in 1976 in Opera and Symphony Conducting (class of Professor E. Grikurov). In 1980, he graduated the Moscow Conservatory (class of Professor G. Rozhdestvensky).
Robert Luther began his theatrical career in 1973 at the Kirov Opera and Ballet Theater. Within 17 years of work, he took part in all productions. His repertoire includes more than 30 opera and about 20 ballet performances. In the 1990s, he toured extensively throughout Europe and the USA with the American Ballet Theater, San Francisco Opera, Berkeley Symphony, Amsterdam Symphony.
From 1991 to 1994 he worked as a permanent conductor of the Vienna State Opera, where he was the musical director and conductor of the performances: Don Quixote by L. Minkus, Giselle by A. Adan, La Traviata by G. Verdi. Robert collaborated with the theatres of Florence (Italy) and Paris (France).
Since 1988, he worked with R. Nuriev. From 1999 to 2002 Luther was the musical director of the American Opera and Theater Company (New York), he directed the productions of the operas Iolanta by P. Tchaikovsky, Rigoletto by G. Verdi and LA Boheme by G. Puccini.
Over the years, Robert Luther received various awards, among which the title of People's Artist of Moldova. In 2003, on the initiative and under the leadership of Robert Luther, the world premiere of the Russian-Thai ballet 'Katya and the Prince of Siam' was carried out with the participation of the Presidential Orchestra of Russia. Luther was the musical director and participant of international festivals: “Bangkok Dance and Music Festival” (Thailand), “Music of Martishor” (Moldova), “Athens Opera and Ballet Festival” (Greece).
From 2005 to 2009 he worked as the chief conductor of the Bashkir State Opera and Ballet Theater, with which he toured in Portugal, Thailand and South Korea.
Since 2010 Robert is one of the leading conductors of the theatre St. Petersburg Opera. Luther's repertoire is huge and it includes works of various styles and genres. On the initiative of Luther and under his direction, concert programs "Christmas Music", "Easter Concert" and many others were conducted.
