The St. Petersburg Chamber Opera opens its 31st season on September 13.
Traditionally, the season will be opened with Eugene Onegin by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, staged by the theatre’s founder and artistic director, People's Artist of Russia Yuri Alexandrov.
Apart from Russian opera masterpiece, in September the company will also present foreign classics including Cavalleria rusticana by Pietro Mascagni (September 20), L’elisir d’amore by Gaetano Donizetti (September 22), La traviata by Giuseppe Verdi (September 24), Tosca by Giacomo Puccini (September 29).
In the first month of the new season the audience will have a chance to see two premieres of the last season: Faust by Charles Gounod (September 16) and Les cloches de Corneville by Robert Planquette (September 27).
The theatre will pay tribute to the great Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart gala concert Viva Mozart! (September 30). Arias and scenes from popular operas by Russian and foreign composers will be performed by the theatre’s soloists and symphony orchestra in a big gala concert World Classic Masterpieces on September 23.
