Pärnu. Start of the summer tour
At the height of the summer season, the Chamber Music Theatre goes on tour. From July 7 to July 9 the first tour will take the theatre to Estonia to participate in Pärnu Opera Days.
The first performance to be shown in Pärnu is Peter I, or The Incredible Adventures of the Russian tsar, a comic melodrama by Gaetano Donizetti. It was director Yuri Alexandrov who first introduced Donizetti's masterpiece in Russia. The preparation of the performance took a few years, but after this hard work he managed to put together fragments of the score of Peter the Great scattered throughout Italy. Thus, this creation of the great composer, that was long thought lost, was returned to the world.
The following evening, July 8, the Italian music will give way to one of the earliest works by Rodion Shchedrin, a 20th century classic composer. His opera Not only love is presented by the theatre in a bright, fresh and modern manner. The premiere in The St. Petersburg Chamber Opera was attended by the composer himself. "Personally, I can see a huge portion of love on the stage", he said referring to the performance by Yuri Alexandrov.
Pärnu tour will be closed with a gala concert of world classic masterpieces, bringing together the leading soloists of The St. Petersburg Chamber Opera.
