“Betrothal in a Monastery” as part of the Moscow tour
The St. Petersburg Chamber Opera is well known in St. Petersburg and beyond.
Each premiere performance of Yuri Alexandrov provokes great interest of both the audience and the critics. His performances have repeatedly won highest drama awards of Russia.
“Betrothal in a Monastery” is an opera based on “The Duenna”, a play by Richard Sheridan. The St. Petersburg Chamber Opera version, is not, however, set in the 18th century Seville, but in a drama school, where the students are busy preparing merrily and recklessly to stage “The Duenna” as their graduation play. Despite its modernized form, the performance carefully preserved the original content without breaking the spiritual lyrical line that the composer created so cherishingly.
At the Moscow tour, “Betrothal in a Monastery” by Sergei Prokofiev will be performed by:
Don Jerome – Vsevolod Kalmykov
Louisa, daughter of Don Jerome – Evgenya Kravchenko
