On September 12, the St. Petersburg Opera Theatre will open its 39th season with Pyotr I. Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, staged by Yuri Alexandrov, a People’s Artist of Russia.
For our theatre, opening the season with this production is not just a tradition but a symbol. Moreover, 2025 marks the 185th anniversary of Tchaikovsky’s birth—a composer whose name is inseparable from the very essence of Russian musical culture. His music never grows old, never loses its power, and never ceases to move us. It remains the voice of the soul.
Yuri Alexandrov’s staging, while rooted in classical tradition, remains vibrant and contemporary—not confined to a museum but reaching out to the audience, speaking directly to the human heart.
The season opening is more than just a date. It is an invitation to a conversation. And we are delighted to begin it once again with Tchaikovsky.
