35th Jubilee Season: Press Conference


On September 02, 2021, a press conference dedicated to the 35th jubilee season was held at the St. Petersburg Opera. 


The press conference was moderated by Angelica Gurskaya, director of the North-West branch of Rossiyskaya Gazeta. 

The artistic director and founder of the theatre Yuri Alexandrov marked the jubilee season as “Russian”. The opera company is preparing two premieres based on the works of Russian composers: the opera Cherevichki by P. Tchaikovsky and the opera Ruslan and Lyudmila by M. Glinka. Spectators will see Cherevichki on the eve of the New Year holidays on December 24, 25, 26. Tickets can be already purchased for these performances. The premiere of Ruslana and Lyudmila is scheduled for June 2022. In the 36th season, the collective will present the operas Ivan IV by G. Bizet and Der Vampyr by H. Marschner. 

On October 11 and 12, the St. Petersburg Opera will show G. Verdi's Rigoletto at one of the most famous venues in the Arab world – Dubai Opera. The performances will be held as part of the official cultural program of the Russian Pavilion at Expo 2020. 

Charge d'Affaires of Russia in the United Arab Emirates Yuri Vidakas said that the leadership of the United Arab Emirates strives to be at the forefront in all spheres, including culture – there are only 2 opera houses in the region, one of them is Dubai Opera, which has become a platform where masterpieces from all over the world are demonstrated. In addition, Yuri Vidakas noted the great interest in the arrival of the Russian opera company. 

“This will be the largest Expo in history. It is very important to present to the whole world the best that is in the cultural life of Russia. We are very pleased that the St. Petersburg Opera is taking part in the cultural program of the Russian Pavilion at Expo 2020 in Dubai,” said Alexander Getman, director of the Russian Pavilion at Expo 2020. 

From September 12 to November 16, 2021, the Sixth Festival of Russian Musical Theatres “To See the Music” will be held in Moscow. Director of the festival, executive director of the Association of Musical Theatres Natalya Zykova said that more than 30 theatres will take part in the festival. They will show more than 40 performances on the stages of the Bolshoi Theater, the Stanislavski and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre, the Helikon-Opera Theatre, the Kolobov Novaya Opera Theatre, the Meridian Arts and Cultural Center, the Children's Musical Theater for a Young Actor, Moscow Children's Musical Theater under the direction of Gennady Chikhachev and others. 

In the frameworks of the festival, the St. Petersburg Opera will perform on the stage of the Helikon-Opera. Honored Art Worker of Russia, Artistic Director of “To See the Music” Festival, President of the Association of Musical Theatres, Artistic Director of the Moscow State Academic Children's Musical Theatre named after N. Sats Georgy Isaakyan noted that the St. Petersburg Opera is the festival's mascot. The Moscow audience will see the opera L’elisir d’amore by Gaetano Donizetti on November 06, 2021, and the opera Elektra by Richard Strauss on November 07, 2021. 

On July 15, 2021, Yuri Alexandrov attended a meeting with the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov, where he discussed the possibility of opening the second stage of the theatre. At the moment, the selection of a possible site is underway. 

In the 35th jubilee season, the Red Hall (red room) will officially open at the St. Petersburg Opera. Concert programs including the undeservedly forgotten music of famous composers will be shown on the stage of the hall.
