“Time dictates the need for happy endings” - this phrase was uttered by Yuri Alexandrov on the eve of the premiere of the play in 2018, and today, when the whole world is in a pandemic, it has acquired a special meaning. The premiere of Die Csárdásfürstin took place at the height of the First World War, and its success, both in Vienna and in St. Petersburg, was such that the performance became one of the noisiest theater events on both sides of the front - both in Russia and in Austria Hungary. After 100 years, the Kalman operetta has not lost its charm.
Die Csárdásfürstin is a great work, and plunging into the world of Kalman’s music is happiness for the artist. The play is also instructive. Today, relations between a man and a woman have been simplified. But this is a complex range of feelings, where such things as fidelity, devotion, the ability to care, make up a complex of love. Now they are quickly getting married, getting divorced quickly. In fact, love is a process that you must plunge into, like in the sacred waters of the Ganges. Love is above all: sex, material relationships. In my opinion, this performance is for everyone ... ”, says Yuri Alexandrov.
