The St. Petersburg Chamber Opera opens its 33st season on September 14.
By tradition, the first performance of the new season will be "Eugene Onegin" by Pyotr Tchaikovsky in the direction of the founder and artistic director of the theatre, People's Artist of Russia Yuri Alexandrov. This performance is almost as old as the theatre itself. This production has been very popular among the audience. It became significant performance for the theatre, reflecting the original aspects of the Chamber Opera: originality of director's decisions, its embodiment, the youth and high professionalism of the troupe.
In the playbill of September, not only masterpieces of Russian opera are introduced, but also foreign classics such as: “Die Fledermaus” by Johann Strauss (September 15) and “La Traviata” by Giuseppe Verdi (September 27).
In September, the audience will also be able to see two premieres of last season: “Little Red Riding Hood” by Caesar Cui (September 21 and 22) and “Die Csárdásfürstin” by Emmereich Kalman (September 29).
On September 18, 20 and 21, the cozy theatre hall will be filled with melodies of romance, and on September 25, popular music of Soviet and foreign pop from the 1930s to the 1970s. On September 22, a unique concert "Harp Gala" will be shown to the people who cherish the sounds of the harp performed by laureate of international competitions Elizaveta Alexandrova and leading soloists of the St.Petersburg Opera.
On September 28, arias and scenes from popular operas by Russian and foreign composers will be performed by the soloists and the theatre’s symphony orchestra in the grand gala concert “World Classic Masterpieces”.
