New theatre's premiere – for children! 'Little Red Riding Hood' by César Cui

On the days of the March school holidays, the 'St. Petersburg Opera' will delight young spectators with the premiere of Caesar Cui's opera 'Little Red Riding Hood'.

Caesar Cui is a creator of the classic children's opera in Russia. His works such as 'The Snow Bogatyr', 'Little Red Riding Hood', 'Ivan the Fool’, ‘Puss in Boots’ were very popular at the beginning of the 20th century, although they were not professionally staged. After the death of the composer, all these works were forgotten for many years. Unfortunately, it was in vain.

The St. Petersburg Opera Theatre was the first one in Russia to turn to the children's musical heritage of the great Russian composer. In December 2017, the fairytale about the most famous Puss was brought back to the stage in Petersburg. 'Puss in Boots' was recognized as the best musical performance of St. Petersburg at the festival 'Theatres of St. Petersburg for Children'. Laconic and tireless even for the audience of kids, the performance contains vocal parts, as well as dancing scenes by soloists and the choir. It turned out that Cui's music can inspire not only children, but also adults. Therefore, it proves that creative experiment of Yuri Alexandrov hit right into the target.

The opera 'Little Red Riding Hood', dedicated to Tsarevich Alexei Romanov, was written in 1911. It has never been staged in professional theatres. This is surprising because the “children's” niche in the repertoire of theatres in Petersburg is not taken.

The premiere of the opera 'Little Red Riding Hood' in the modern adaption and decorations will be shown to the public on March 23, 24, 2019.
