On April 27th, within the framework of the festival ‘Volga Theatre Seasons’, the St. Petersburg Chamber Opera’ will present in Samara its latest premiere, Charles Gounod’s opera piece ‘Faust’, the original director’s concept of which aroused a wide resonance among music critics and a huge interest of the St. Petersburg theatre publics.
In modern expressive style, director Yuri Alexandrov raises eternal problems of life, thinking on mission of a man and confrontation between hell and heaven and, at the same time, vividly responding to today's global events. "The invasion into human consciousness, an attempt to create a new Frankenstein" the director saw it in this great plot of European culture.
A few years ago, the St. Petersburg Chamber Opera was already participating in the ‘Volga Theatre Seasons’ with a performance that is shown only in St. Petersburg Chamber Opera – 'The Rape of Lucretia' by Benjamin Britten. The presentation of this opera for Samara audience was a great success crowned with high awards of the festival.
