The events of the new season

Theatre ‘Saint Petersburg Chamber Opera’ has opened a new season. It is promised to be full of rich and interesting events.

The first premiere of the season will be the production of the operetta of Emmerich Kálmán ‘Die Csárdásfürstin’ (‘The Riviera Girl’). In the repertoire of the theatre, the cycle called ‘Operetta in the opera house' occupies a significant place. The Artistic director of the theatre and the Director of the plays Yuri Alexandrov aspires to juggle with various genres. From the first season of the foundation of the theatre in 1987 to the 32nd season in 2018, the high drama and musical comedy are harmoniously coexisting together in the repertoire. Besides the classics of the genre such as Johann Strauss, Jacques Offenbach and Robert Plunkett, a Hungarian name of the composer Emmerich Kálmán will be included in the theatre’s playbill. ‘Die Csárdásfürstin’ is one of the most popular of his works. The premiere of the production is scheduled for December of this year.

In October the theatre will host the Third International Festival of Chamber Opera. This music forum became well-known not only in St. Petersburg and gained popularity among people who appreciate opera. This year unique performances will be shown by chamber opera collectives from Moscow, as well as from abroad: Germany and Poland.

This season the collective of the theatre will have several tours. In the first half of the season the theatre will visit Russian cities Petrozavodsk, Kazan and will take part in the festival "Seeing the music" in Moscow. Foreign routes will be laid from the European south to the north: from French Nice and Slovenian Maribor to the capitals of nordic states Tallinn and Helsinki.

Happy new season! Good luck and creative inspiration!
