The theatre is preparing a new premiere
The St. Petersburg Chamber Opera, having in its repertoire the Mozart's opera ‘Don Giovanni’ - the top of the opera creativity of the Austrian genius, turned to the composer's earlier work, the opera Die Entführung aus dem Serail.’
The time of the creation of the opera was one of the happiest in Mozart's life: he is 26 years old, having many plans and passionately in love with Constanze Weber, whom he intends to marry. Inspired and full of hope, Mozart works pretty fast. The opera was enthusiastically welcomed in Vienna and soon spread throughout Germany. Its premiere, taken place on July 16th, 1782, marked the birth of the Austro-German opera.
Director of the new producton is the artistic director of the theatre St. Petersburg Chamber Opera, People’s Artist of Russia Yuri Alexandrov, as always, offers an original version of the work. In his works he uses a rich associations, includes historical parallels, sometimes surprising and sometimes stunning spectators with his findings. This is the key to the productions’ success for the director, who thinks unconventional, bringing a fresh breath of modernity to his interpretation of classical works. ‘In the complex labyrinth of the play,’ says the director, ‘the respectable spectator will see not only a fascinating and joyful story about the adventures of the 18th century. But also a lyrical narrative about the uneasy relationship between Mozart and his wife Constanze.
The premiere is scheduled for June 30th. The conductor of the performance is Maxim Valkov. Set designer is Vyacheslav Okunev.
