Summary of the 29th season


With the concert programme Vienna melodies combining different faces of the European musical capital, the St. Petersburg Chamber Opera closed its 29th season that was full of events, premieres and tours. 

This season was an extremely fruitful one thanks to the work of the whole team and its artistic director, People's Artist of Russia Yuri Alexandrov. 
Last season saw four premieres, L'elisir d'amore by Gaetano Donizetti, Cavalleria Rusticana by Pietro Mascagni, Les pêcheurs de perles by Georges Bizet and the diptych To remember
This season was also marked with a number of new festivals. In autumn, the theatre initiated two festivals: Children, to children for children featuring best children’s performances of the Moscow drama groups, and Silver Ring of Russia, which brought together chamber choirs of the North-West region of Russia. 
The highlight of the theatre’s festival season was the First international chamber opera festival presenting chamber companies from Moscow, Latvia and Estonia. 
The festival was both opened and closed with performances of The St. Petersburg Chamber Opera. In addition, the company participated in Opera Panorama festival in Moscow (with Betrothal in a Monastery) and in International festivals in Pärnu (Estonia) and Jekabpils (Latvia). The theatre’s international tours took the company from Latvia and Estonia to Mongolia. The theatre presented its gala concerts in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Khabarovsk, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. 
Many of the performances and concerts were designed to celebrate important dates. The performance of Not Only Love on November 20, 2015 was dedicated to the anniversary of Maya Plisetskaya and to the memory of the great ballerina. To mark the 260th anniversary of Mozart's birth, the theatre presented a number of gala concerts Viva Mozart! 
Focusing on the young audience, the theatre presents The crystal sound of the Magic Harp concert programme as well as children's concert programs The future of the planet and Musical ABC
This season was marked with some new thematic concert programs. The orchestra musicians presented their chamber instrumental and symphonic programs. 
The troupe led by its founder, Yuri Alexandrov, is full of creative ideas, inspiration and energy. We are looking forward to the 30th season and meeting our beloved audience again.
