Jekabpils. Traditional performance at the international festival

After touring Estonia, The St. Petersburg Chamber Opera will move to Latvia to participate traditionally in the annual International Opera Festival in Jekabpils.

Opera Days in Jekabpils, an international musical festival, will be held in Latvia for the fifth time and, traditionally, the appearance of The St. Petersburg Chamber Opera becomes one of the festival’s main events. Performances staged by the theatre’s artistic director, People's Artist of Russia, Yuri Alexandrov are well known to the Latvian audience. What’s more, Yuri Alexandrov was one the founders of Jekabpils festival. It was in 2012 that the St.-Petersburg artists presented Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi on the stage installed on Krustpils island. In 2013, the theatre brought a performance of Gaetano Donizetti's Pietro il Grande zar di tutte le Russie, that Yuri Alexandrov and the Chamber Opera company revived after years of oblivion, discovering the early masterpiece of the composer. In 2014, the theatre presented Don Giovanni by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and last year it was Die Fledermaus, the brilliant operetta by Johann Strauss.
This year the theatre brings to the festival its recent successful premiere, Il barbiere di Siviglia by Gioachino Rossini directed by Yuri Alexandrov, which will be presented at the festival on July 23.
