23 March: Little Red Riding Hood

Caesar Cui is a creator of the classic children's opera in Russia. His works such as 'The Snow Bogatyr', 'Little Red Riding Hood', 'Ivan the Fool’, ‘Puss in Boots’ were very popular at the beginning of the 20th century, although they were not professionally staged. After the death of the composer, all these works, unfortunately, were forgotten for many years.

The opera 'Little Red Riding Hood', dedicated to Tsarevich Alexei Romanov, was written in 1911. It has never been staged in professional theatres. This is surprising because the 'children's' niche in the repertoire of theatres in Petersburg is not taken.

Once again Yuri Alexandorv turns to the plot of one of Caesar Cui's works and revives another opera of the composer 'Little Red Riding Hood'.
